Trust Me, I'm A Superhero is a card game in which players throw down their most chaotic combo of cards to build the best superhero for a wild hypothetical scenario.
Whether it be a laser-eyed t-rex bringing about the apocalypse or perhaps helping a disgruntled citizen with their annual taxes, there's an amateur superhero ready to take on the mission!
Challenge
Design Packaging, Identity, 144 card illustrations & Box Cover within a limited timeframe.
Solution
Off the bat had to decide on a visual direction that matched the punchy energy of the product & could be streamlined into process to produce the vast amount of illustrative work to be produced. Landing on a style inspired from 60's cartoons with a flexible colour system.
Card Illustration Process
Starting out by learning a new art style by breaking down, replicating components of the 60's cartoon style & then adapting it to fit the result we're trying to achieve. All of the illustrations were created in Adobe Fresco to ensure vector quality while maintaining a loose style that could be rapidly produced.
To streamline the process, base figures were sketched out & traced over with final line work. With a tall order of at least 144 card illustrations to be done, illustrations were modified & reworked to create a new illustration. It was a creative priority to represent a diverse range of body types & identities within these illustrations.
Once the line work for the card illustrations were complete, it was time to utilize the colour system created.
